Dubai Plans - Dubai United Arab Emirates Plans

Dubai has built unique construction projects that the world has not see before, such as the iconic Burj Al Arab, world's tallest hotel and the Burj Arab, world's tallest building. Dubai has more grand plans to expand the city into of the best resort, residential and business areas in the world that are expected to accommodate millions.

The Palm Islands are man made islands in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on which major commercial and residential properties will be constructed. They are being constructed by Nakheel Properties, a property developer in the United Arab Emirates, who hired the Dutch dredging and marine contractor Van Oord, one of the world's specialists in land reclamation.

The Palm Islands consist of the Palm Jumeirah, the Palm Jebel Ali and the Palm Deira.
Each settlement will be in the shape of a palm tree, topped with a crescent, and will have a large number of residential, leisure and entertainment centers. The Palm Islands are located off the coast of Dubai, U.A.E in the Persian Gulf and will add 520 kilometres of beaches to the city. The Palm Islands is an ambitious project with plans to create some of the most attractive and largest waterfront residential and tourist communities in the world. Additionally, between the Palm Islands is another grandiose development, known as "The World", consisting of hundreds of islands that form the shape of the world with all its continents.

The first two islands will comprise approximately 100 million cubic meters of rock and sand. Palm Deira will be composed of approximately 1 billion cubic meters of rock and sand. All materials will be quarried in the UAE. Between the three islands there will be over 100 luxury hotels, exclusive residential beach side villas and apartments, marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities and health spas.

The Palm Jumeirah takes the shape of a palm tree and is located near the central part of the city, near Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City. Palm Jumeirah consists of a trunk, a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that forms an 11 kilometres long breakwater. The island is 5 kilometres by 5 kilometres and its total area is larger than 800 football fields. The crown is connected to the mainland by a 300-metre bridge and the crescent is connected to the top of the palm by a subsea tunnel. Over the next few years, as the tourism phases develop, The Palm Jumeirah is expected to become one of the world's premier resorts. The Palm Islands is the self-declared 'Eighth Wonder of the World'. According to the developer's publicity material, the Jumeirah Palm island will feature themed boutique hotels, three types of villas (Signature Villas, Garden Homes and Canal Cove Town Homes), shoreline apartment buildings, beaches, marinas, restaurants, cafés and a variety of retail outlets. More than 30 beachfront hotels will be opened by the end of 2009, including major ones such as The Trump International Hotel & Tower and Atlantis, The Palm. The inspirational centre piece of Palm Jumeirah, The Trump International Hotel & Tower is 60-storey building with dramatic sky lobby will offer 388 freehold residential apartments. The five star resort Atlantis The Palm has 1,373 spacious guest rooms and 166 suites designed with subtle oceanic and Arabic influences, overlooking the beautiful azure Arabian Gulf and Palm Jumeirah itself.

Plans for The Palm Deira were announced for in October 2004, with no timetable for completion yet. The first announced plan was 8 times larger than the Palm Jumeirah, and 5 times larger than the Palm Jebel Ali, and was intended to house one million people.
By early October 2007, about one fifth of the island's reclamation was complete, with a total of 200 million cubic meters (7 billion cubic feet) of sand already used. Then in early April 2008, Nakheel announced that more than a quarter of the total area of the Palm Deira had been reclaimed. Since the Palm Deira is expected to be so large, it is being constructed in several phases. The first one is the creation of Deira Island. This portion of the Palm will sit alongside the Deira Corniche between the entrance to Dubai Creek and Al Hamriya Port. Palm Deira is the closest Palm Island to Dubai International Airport.

Deira Island will act as "the gateway to The Palm Deira" and aid in revitalizing the aging area of Deira. By early April 2008, 80% of Deira Island Front's reclamation was complete. The Palm Deira project has plans for a total of nine different major sections. The Palm Deira is located right near Dubai International Airport.

Deira Island Front forms the gateway to Palm Deira. This unique section consists of a thriving mixed-use district built around an expansive pedestrian boulverad. Flanked by a stunning waterfront promenade, Deira Island is expected to provide beach access and aa wide range of recreational and lesisure activities.

Deira Island Mamzar is an exclusive, idyllic residential enclave that benefits greatly from an isolated location and tranquil outlook. The island will have its own marina to serve the residents.

Deira Island North is a panoramic stretch of land navigable by water taxi through the central canal. This section is home to two full sized marinas and a larger leisure complex, offering water activities and waterfront lifestyle.

Deira Island South consists of internal canals that form an amazing atmosphere for the central business district on this island. Commercial properties at this island benefit from excellent views of harboue lanes and nearby port Rashid.

Deira Island Central serves as a major transportation hub for Palm Deira, and has a district maritime feel, consistent with the dhow wharfs, marina and shipyard. An abundance of systematic canals allow streamline transition for the residential and commercial properties located along the water.

Palm Crown island is located at the tip of the Palm Deira, 12.5 km off the coast, on the Arabian Gulf. Plans for the Palm Crown include to provide the ultimate stylish and lavish lifestyle for residents.

Palm Fronds is a chain of islands forming the heart of Palm Deira. Palm Fronds are separated by canals and waterfront facilities, with each frond-shaped island boasting a unique architectural style.

Palm Crescent consists of low rising residential properties located along golden sandy beaches. Palm Crescent is composed of two large islands that surrounded the Palm Fronds. Plans for the Palm Crescent include community developments, parks and lots of open spaces.

Deira Island Trunk is located in the center of the Palm Deira. An iconic tower rises at the southern tip of the Palm Trunk. The beacon creates a central hub for commercial towers with an attractive corporate location. Statesuqe bridges connect to the nearby islands, offering the thriving business community great mobility around the Palm Deira.

Located near the Dubai/Abu Dhabi border, The Palm Jebel Ali Umar began its construction phases in October 2002. The Palm Jebel Ali is expected to accommodate 1.7 million people by 2020. Upon completion, it will be encircled by Dubai Waterfront, expected to become the largest waterfront development on the planet. The Palm Jebel Ali project, which is 50 percent larger than the Palm Jumeirah, will include six marinas, a water theme park, 'Sea Village', homes built on stilts above the water, and boardwalks that circle the "fronds" of the "palm" and spell out an Arabic poem by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. As of early October 2007, construction of the island was on schedule. The breakwater was completed in December 2006, and infrastructure work began in April 2007. One of the first buildings on The Palm Jebel Ali is already known. Nakheel invited several architects to design a building on a 300,000 m2 area. The winning design was a building by Royal Haskoning, who also worked on several other projects in Dubai.

Upon completion, plans for Palm Jebel Ali include 70 kilometers of beaches, six marinas, luxury hotels, a mixture of housing with different architectural styles, and many amenities for the community. With a partnership with Busch Entertainment Corporation, Palm Jebel Ali will include attractions such as The Worlds of Discovery, SeaWorld, Aquatica, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove.

Palm Jebel Ali appeals for both residents and tourists, with developments ranging from luxurious villas along the fronds islands, and apartments and townhouses on the spine, trunk, and crescents. The island will have more than 500 waterfront homes, raised on platforms above the waters of the Gulf, with optional private boat berths and beaches.
